A blue pencil is traditionally used by an editor  to show corrections to written copy. The color is used specifically because it will not show in some lithographic or photographic reproduction processes. With the introduction of desktop publishing, blue pencils are seen more rarely, but still exist in metaphor. Blue Pencil properties are those that have been edited, renovated, redesigned or organized; revised and corrected in functionality and style.
